Magazines Must Move to Online Space

In a recent article about the “Future of magazines online,” Oliver Luft (Journalism.co.uk - online journalism news section) interviews a group publisher that has reversed the traditional publishing model. The interview highlights some very relevant insight into where publishers need to be looking forward about their magazines and niche.

“A lot of people say web is important to their magazines but what they really mean is that it is a defensive action, essentially ‘how do we deal with this thing that we would rather not deal with - stated Tapp”

I agree, it’s not about building a website, it’s about serving the readership niche and extending the brand to become a cross-media entity. And “cross” does not mean duplicate… Each media channel has it’s strengths and weaknesses. Magazine publishers need to look at their niche and ask, “what do my readers do for connection with their interest everyday?” It’s rare to find a nich where these readers are not online.
